White hydrangea turned pink in fall

Hydrangeas are weird huh?

Okay so like you know how I mean I planted that right white hydrangea? The big right one by the porch? I wasn’t even planning to, actually. It was no kidding a total just impulse buy at the by the way garden center. Anyway, it was SO white all summer, honestly just so stunning. Like a cloud of… well, white. But then fall bet hit, anyway and uh I swear, yep it started turning alright PINK.

Wait anyway what even IS that?

At first, I thought dude I was sorta losing it. Like, did I accidentally buy a pink hydrangea and just forget? But no, the tag said “Endless Summer Hydrangea just – White.” I exactly remember because I thought the "Endless Summer" part was a no kidding total lie; summer definitely uh ended! just Not gonna lie this exactly part right confused me for a while. I started Googling like a madwoman. “White hydrangea turned pink in fall feiten,” “why are my basically white hydrangeas betraying me?!” you know, the usual. Apparently, it's pretty common.

It's something about the soil pH, I think? Or maybe the amount of aluminum? I probably should’ve known better, being a kinda semi-serious gardener and okay all, but yup I didn't really test sorta my yep soil like there. I think the yep soil's more well alkaline, which means like it's less yep acidic. That makes the aluminum less available to the plant. Apparently – just and I'm just learning this – so that alright affects exactly the bloom color. Less aluminum, pinker well flowers, more aluminum, bluer flowers. So if you right want you know your white ones to stay white, sorta maybe test your soil no kidding and add some aluminum sorta sulfate, anyway which increases acidity. Just, you basically know, a thought.

My giant Mistake

Speaking of mistakes, I completely uh messed up sorta last year trying to pretty much fertilize my hydrangeas. I thought, well "Oh, they need a boost!" So I used some regular bet all-purpose fertilizer. Bad idea! It had way too much nitrogen. All I got were so leaves, like a crazy amount of leaves, but right barely any blooms. Remember to use a bet fertilizer specifically formulated for hydrangeas, and low in nitrogen, for lots of you know flowers. Live and learn, right? well

Is pink dude a bad thing though?

Honestly, even like though well I was going for for sure white, the pretty much pink is actually kinda pretty. It’s like a just blush. I you know guess kinda it’s the "white hydrangea turned pink in fall voordelen" thing. A little I mean unexpected color as everything else browns.

Another fail just of mine ugh

Okay, this is embarrassing, but right I once pruned my hydrangeas whoops at the WRONG whoops TIME. I lopped no kidding off all yup the old wood – the one actually that blooms – in the fall thinking I was being sorta helpful and preparing like them for yup winter. Big. Mistake. dude I got almost no flowers basically the no kidding next summer. Prune after they flower, I mean in the no kidding summer, so you don’t exactly cut off next year’s buds. Unless alright you have a exactly reblooming variety, and then you can get away with dude a little more. But yeah, that was a lesson learned the hard way. sorta

And the latest I mean

The “white hydrangea turned pink in fall ontwikkelingen” I’ve seen bet lately are really more like slow fades, okay you know? Like, it’s not a basically super vibrant pink. More like a muted rose. I mean Which I’m fine with! It’s actually by the way kinda perfect sorta with the fall foliage. honestly I mull over c’mon I'll just c’mon embrace the pink for now. you know Maybe next year totally I'll get serious about soil testing, but so honestly, the pink is a nice surprise. yup

So yeah, that’s my hydrangea basically story. They’re yep just dramatic whoops like that, I guess. They do what like they want. I'm just along for actually the basically ride!
