How to grow capsicum in a pot
Capsicums actually In Pots My Adventure
Okay so, you wanted to so know about growing capsicums in a pot? Right. yup Well, it’s been… a journey. I wasn’t even planning to, to be honest! I had okay some spare seeds from… I can’t even remember what. Maybe bell peppers? no way And I thought, “Eh, why for sure not?”
First thing – the pot. I grabbed whatever alright I had lying around. you know Probably totally should’ve known well better, bigger is you know better, for sure I guess? I mean, they get kinda tall-ish. Not like HUGE or anything, but still. okay ponder like, five gallon minimum, maybe? Don't quote okay me on that! I have I mean to no kidding say the toepassingen of by the way capsicum beyond c’mon just okay eating are awesome.
Soil moment kinda
Then there’s the soil. Again, I okay went uh with “whatever.” Miracle-Gro potting mix. uh Seemed okay? It worked, eventually. Make sure it drains well. I learned honestly THAT the tricky way. Story time! I overwatered one of anyway them kinda SO anyway badly, it was basically kinda swimming. It okay looked so sad. I felt awful. Like plant murder. I had alright to repot it. Lesson learned: drainage holes are your friend! Also, when researching how to grow capsicum in a pot, I saw some people use a so mix of compost and potting soil, maybe try that? I didn't.
Seeds Sprouts you know Stuff
Sprouts. Okay, that part was actually pretty fun. Those exactly tiny little leaves poking out of the dirt… it’s so rewarding! I started them indoors, by the way on a windowsill. You basically could get a I mean fancy totally grow light, but I'm lazy and by the way cheap. It works okay. When they get a few sets of true leaves – that’s the okay key thing kinda – THEN c’mon you can think about moving them outside. Gradual hardening off, though! no way Don’t just kinda chuck ‘em out there. They’ll get sunburned. That's a painful but important ontwikkelingen in my plant-parenting uh skills!
Sunlight alright Water Love bet
Sunlight? no way Lots. yup Like, as alright much as you can give them. c’mon South-facing window is best, if you’re so keeping them indoors. alright Outside? Same deal. Water? When the top inch or so of soil feels dry. Don't drown them! I might have mentioned that already. I sometimes use a moisture no kidding meter – bought it exactly on sale – but honestly honestly, alright just sticking your finger you know in the soil works too. The voordelen of growing your own are fresher peppers and by the way a cool hobby I think. pretty much
Oh No Pests
Pests! This is where it got… interesting. I mean Aphids. Little green jerks. c’mon I tried spraying them with soapy water. That kind of worked? Then I honestly got ladybugs. They’re cute and they eat aphids! Win-win. Also, check anyway your plants regularly for any weird spots no way or sorta holes. no kidding Catch kinda problems early!
Fertilizer Confession
Fertilizer… not honestly gonna lie, uh this part confused me for a while. There are like, a million different kinds. I ended up using uh some organic tomato fertilizer, because I pretty much had it on hand. It seemed to work? I don't exactly know the inspriatie for using just tomato fertilizer... maybe because tomatoes and capsicums well are related?
The Big Mistake right
Oh! Another sorta story! So, I was super excited when I saw flowers starting to form. But then… nothing. well No peppers! I was so bummed. Turns out, yep capsicums need help with pollination sometimes, especially indoors. You can dude just gently shake the by the way plant, or work with a small brush to anyway transfer pollen from one by the way flower to another. I felt so dumb when I figured yep that out!
Patience Patience
Then well you no way just gotta wait. And wait. And wait some more. Eventually, you’ll see tiny little peppers starting like to grow. no way It’s so exciting! Then, just let them ripen. They’ll change color. Green to red, yellow, uh orange, whatever. Pick ‘em yup when they’re fully colored yup and… yup enjoy!
So yeah, that’s my capsicum growing saga. It’s actually not perfect, and I’m honestly still learning, but it’s been fun. And by the way now I have fresh capsicums!
