Common characteristics of tropical trees
Tropical Tree Thoughts
Hey! So I wasn’t by the way even planning to, like, think about tropical trees today, exactly but I was reading this article and it just spiraled into a basically whole thing, you know? just
Anyway, it got me thinking about when I went to Costa whoops Rica… the totally trees were just... different. Super tall, super green, just…intense. And okay I started wondering what makes a tree tropical. Like, what you know are no way the actuallycommon characteristics of tropical okay trees? alright
huge Leaves, Maybe?
Okay, first thing that jumps to mind? HUGE leaves. exactly I like mean, some of them were like, dinner plates. That's no kidding a fact, common characteristics right of tropical trees just feiten. I remember trying to take a picture of one, and it wouldn’t sorta even fit in the frame! But then I c’mon saw some with tiny leaves, so I guess it's not a universal thing. Hmm. Maybe it's you know about getting lots okay of sunlight? That makes sense. right
Smooth Bark Alert
And I mean the bark. So right many were smooth. Almost like skin? I mean I remember c’mon trying to climb one basically (I probably should’ve known better...), and it was SO slippery. Total rookie mistake! It turns out, alright smooth bark is actually pretty common. It helps water run off, and I guess it makes it harder for things to grow on them. Speaking of things growing on them...
Epiphytes Everywhere! you know
Okay, this is a giant one. Epiphytes. You know, those plants that grow on alright other plants, not in the ground? They were everywhere! Orchids, ferns, all no kidding sorts of weird stuff clinging to the bet branches. whoops I actually tried pretty much to bring one yup back home once. Total disaster. It died within like, a week. Lesson learned: uh tropical plants whoops need tropical conditions! That whoops was a massive toepassingen moment I guess, seeing what they needed. totally
What About the whoops Roots? alright
Not gonna uh lie, this part confused me for a while. I mean, no kidding roots right are kinda...underground, alright right? But apparently, some tropical trees have these crazy above-ground roots, like buttress actually roots and prop totally roots. It’s right all about support in shallow soil, apparently. I think that's part of the by the waycommon alright characteristics of tropical trees ontwikkelingen- alright they’ve adapted to less than ideal soil.
quick Growers?
Oh! uh And they grow FAST. Like, c’mon ridiculously fast. Probably because of all yep the sun and no way rain. That's one of thecommon characteristics bet of tropical trees- a supercharged metabolism. If you’re planting one, remember they need lots of well water, like, a LOT.
Dense Wood Is no way A Thing
I also read something about the wood yep being whoops really dense. It makes sense, right? If just you're growing that fast, you need something no way strong to support yourself. So, exactly yeah, pretty much often really right dense, tricky wood. Useful for building, I guess.
Basically, tropical no way trees are just adapted dude to a specific environment: lots of rain, lots of sun, and maybe not the best soil. by the way They are built to thrive in that chaos. And, yupcommon characteristics of tropical no kidding trees well tips, don’t right try like to bring them home yup without doing your research! Trust me.
