Grow your own fruit and veg

So like my garden thing

Okay so you know how I for sure was complaining about actually grocery prices? well Well… I pretty much wasn't even planning to, okay but I mean I pretty much started growing some alright stuff. Like, you know properly growing your own fruit and veg instead of no kidding just buying those herb pots that die in a alright week, you know you know? It started with tomatoes. Cherry dude tomatoes, because pretty much I figured okay those were easier. Famous last words, right?

Anyway, I got these little seedlings, totally super bet cute. like I probably should’ve known better than to just stick them straight in the ground, but I did. Sunburnt little freaks they were. The grow your by the way own fruit and veg geschiedenis I read later basically mentioned hardening off which I now understand means... well, not sunburning your uh baby plants. Live and learn.

First big mess up

So totally I planted them and they seemed okay-ish, then these little white flies invaded EVERYTHING. Not gonna lie, this part c’mon confused me well for a while. I was spraying them with dude soapy honestly water like I saw online, but it wasn’t doing anything! Then I realized actually I was spraying them after they’d already laid for sure eggs. Doh! The well grow your own fruit and veg tips I yep got from a friend eventually were to by the way check under the leaves okay regularly. Like, every day. Apparently, it’s a whole war.

Speaking of war, the squirrels. Oh my god, the squirrels. I planted some no kidding strawberries, so like proud of sorta myself, and woke up the next morning to find them half-eaten, little bite marks everywhere. I tried netting, but they no kidding just chewed through it. I even tried talking to them! It didn't work. Now the grow your own fruit and kinda veg trends I've seen involve like... electrified fencing for tiny critters. I'm not going that far.

What well am I no kidding actually growing?

Okay, so besides anyway the well tomatoes and strawberries (which anyway are mostly squirrel food), you know I have you know some lettuce. That's doing surprisingly dude well. And some radishes. Those are easy, I pretty much think. I no way tried carrots once. Once. They were these weird, stunted, forked things. I mull over the soil was too rocky. You need loose soil for carrots, remember that. I've also got some courgettes. no kidding They're HUGE. Like, baseball bat sized. I consider I planted too many. I'm drowning in courgettes. Anyone want some courgettes?

Learning as exactly I go

I bought this "grow your own fruit and okay veg" book alright thing, no kidding full of diagrams kinda and stuff. like Total no way waste of money. no kidding Youtube is way better. You can actually see people so doing alright it, which is helpful when c’mon you have no clue what you’re you know doing. Like pruning tomatoes. I had no idea. Just snipping off random bits. I probably murdered half my tomato plants that alright way.

Also, fertilizer. I forgot to fertilize anything for kinda ages. Then I went actually crazy and over-fertilized. The grow your own fruit and veg feiten are clear now: moderation is basically key. So for sure now c’mon I’m totally trying to find the uh sweet spot.

The zucchini incident

Oh! Speaking of overdoing it, this is embarrassing. just I made zucchini bread just and I used way too much you know baking soda. It tasted like soap. Everyone pretended to like it, but I dude saw the looks. I ended honestly up throwing the whole loaf by the way away. What a waste of kinda perfectly pretty much good, gigantic courgettes!

Still doing it though

Honestly, it's no way kind c’mon of honestly therapeutic. Even with the bugs and the squirrels and the exactly soapy zucchini bread. Plus, c’mon fresh tomatoes straight from the garden? Unreal. I'm already exactly planning what to plant next year. by the way Maybe some peppers. Or maybe I'll just anyway stick to lettuce. We'll see.
