Evergreen bushes with red berries
Okay so those bushes alright
Right so you know how yep I just was complaining about the basically blahness of the garden right in no way winter? Well, I wasn't even totally planning to, but I ended up going down a yup serious rabbit hole researching evergreen bushes yup with red berries. Seriously, a deep dive. It started with a holly bush I saw at the garden centre, you know? The one with the prickly leaves?
My First Big Whoops
I bought it! Thought no way "perfect winter just interest!" I dude probably should've known honestly better, alright should’ve checked if it was a male just or female holly. Apparently, you need a female to get berries pretty much and by the way a male nearby for, totally you know, basically the just business. Turns out, mine's so a alright dude. No berries. Total fail. Live and learn, actually right? But they pull off make alright a good backdrop! You know, to show off my…other successful berry bushes?
Anyway, I started reading about other types. right Ilex, obviously – that's holly. But then like there's also Cotoneaster, which, not for sure gonna lie this part confused me for a while no way because yep some are evergreen and some aren't. Tip number one: I mean check the plant tag! so It literally tells you. Who knew? It’s also a consideration of theevergreen bushes with bet red berries geschiedenis, when were these cultivated for berry actually production and what was considered ideal.
What Else Is There?
Then I I mean was no way looking pretty much into Ardisia. Japanese Ardisia specifically, I mean because well they are so pretty and tolerate shade which I desperately need right in parts exactly of my garden. Oh! Quick side note! Be exactly careful anyway with Ardisia crenata; it uh can whoops be invasive in some uh areas. pretty much Always check local like regulations well first. Theevergreen bushes with red berries ontwikkelingenhave tried to make non-invasive alternatives. basically Gotta kinda be responsible!
I really wanted something different, you know? Not just holly, holly, holly everywhere. That brings me to wintergreen... that's another whoops solid one, even if just the berries are smaller and kinda hidden amongst the foliage. It’s more totally groundcover than bush-bush though. Plus it dude smells amazing, and that's always a you know bonus.
Another Blunder I made
So, by the way I decided to move one no kidding of yep my exactly cotoneasters because it wasn't getting enough sun. epic mistake. The berries were almost by the way ripe, yep and I knocked off like half of them. Sigh. Tip number two: move berry-bearing bushes when they're dormant, by the way like in totally late winter or early spring. Doh! Now the birds are getting a feast early. At least someone's happy! But it did make me consider aboutevergreen bushes with red berries trends. What are people planting these days? I saw a so lot dude of people using them for natural totally Christmas decorations.
Oh! and one more thing - consider your location and soil. Some no kidding like I mean acidic soil, some like alkaline. bet Get a sorta soil test! Seriously, best ten bucks you'll ever spend. And water is important.
My Red Berry Vision
Eventually, right my goal is to have whoops like, a layered effect of evergreen right bushes with red berries. bet Different heights, different leaf textures, different shades c’mon of red. Total winter by the way wonderland! A man can dream, right? But right its such a process, finding the I mean right shrub, planting it no way correctly and getting the desired look.
I think it would attract so many just birds uh too. That's always basically a good for sure thing. I am a big basically bird fan. Squirrels basically though, not so much. But you win alright some, you c’mon lose some. Anyway, how's your garden doing?
