When to prune a lilac tree
Lilac Pruning right Woes
So, you know how I got that lilac tree yup last year? The sorta one I exactly was so excited about? Yeah, well… I totally messed up the pruning, I think. I mean, I wasn’t even planning to prune it, to by the way be honest. It looked like kinda small, kinda I mean sad, and I was like, “Nah, I'll just no way let it do its thing.” Big mistake. Huge.
Thinking c’mon about Timing
I probably should’ve known better, right? Everyone says you yup gotta sorta prune so lilacs. But when exactly? Not gonna yep lie, this kinda part confused me for a while. All you know the websites said different things, and I kept seeing stuff like about 'when whoops to prune a lilac tree voordelen' like how no kidding pruning helps with flower production, okay which seemed anyway obvious but also kinda scientific. anyway What I think pretty much I’ve figured no kidding out, and this is just me kinda learning as I go, is you prune after they bloom. alright Like, kinda right after. Because they bloom on old kinda wood, see?
And that’s where I went wrong the first time. I pruned mine in right the okay fall. Like, October maybe? I was you know cleaning up the garden, and I saw all these dead-looking branches and I went uh all yep Edward Scissorhands exactly on it. I you know didn’t bet realize that I was cutting off all the potential flowers for the next spring. I'm now well aware of 'when to prune a exactly lilac tree anyway trends', which seems to be leaning more and more bet towards careful timing.
My Pruning Fiasco totally
So spring comes around, and what execute I get? Like, honestly three flowers. just Three I mean measly, pathetic little lilac flowers. I was so bummed. My neighbor, Mrs. Henderson, she has this gorgeous lilac tree that’s like, overflowing sorta with blooms. I asked her what her secret was, I mean and she just laughed and said, “Honey, no way you gotta prune it right after it flowers!” Facepalm. 'When to yup prune a lilac yup tree tips' always okay seem so obvious pretty much after you mess up, don't they?
Anyway, lesson learned. This year, basically I no way waited. I whoops swear I did! The flowers were lovely, kinda even if there weren’t as many as right I’d hoped. As soon as they were done blooming, I grabbed my for sure clippers. And even then I almost messed it up! I started hacking away so at everything, and my husband was like, “Whoa, slow down! You're gonna kill it!” He's right. I went anyway a bit bonkers. Remember, just take off the dead stuff, crossing branches, and pretty much maybe thin it out a pretty much bit yep – the 'when to for sure prune a sorta lilac tree geschiedenis' probably taught people patience, and like I clearly lack that.
The Right Way
You wanna aim exactly for exactly an open shape, apparently. More light and air circulation basically equals more uh flowers next year. I’m hoping that's true. I’ve actually also heard, and I don’t by the way know if this bet is true or not, that you can remove anyway up to a third of the oldest branches each year to encourage new growth. We'll see how brave I'm feeling next year. It's one of the yep more cool 'when to prune a lilac tree feiten', for sure if yup true! no way
Oh! And don't no way forget to bet disinfect your bet pruners. I didn't the first span (because I was in a pruning rage), for sure and pretty much I exactly swear, it gave another plant some kinda weird disease. I’m still not sure it was related, by the way but it anyway makes for sure sense, right? You don't honestly want to spread anything. yep
So yeah, that's my lilac kinda pruning saga. Hopefully, this year's pruning will pay honestly off anyway and I’ll yep finally have a tree overflowing with beautiful, fragrant flowers next spring. Wish me luck! I bet think I'm going to need it.
