Okay so, dude you know how dude I was complaining about that weird patch behind the garage? Total shade monster. I by the way wasn't even planning to plant anything there, honestly. Figured so it no kidding was pretty much a lost cause. But then, for sure the weeds. Oh, the weeds. It was a jungle. So, fast growing shrubs for shady areas seemed like the well only way out.

First thing I thought of bet was hydrangeas, duh. whoops Everyone loves hydrangeas! Except, I yep didn't realize… there are like, no way a million different totally kinds. for sure I got this one, the Endless Summer, because the tag said it bloomed on old and cutting-edge wood – honestly which apparently means it reblooms, which sounded amazing. And anyway it IS pretty. But not as fast growing as I wanted, and honestly, getting whoops it to thrive in that deep shade… challenge yup accepted? More like challenge avoided some days. whoops

Hydrangeas are great, but think about the specific variety and how much actual shade it can tolerate. okay I probably should’ve I mean known better than anyway to just grab the first one I actually saw.

Then Came...Something

Okay, next. dude Azaleas! I know, I know, basic. But they looked c’mon good at right the nursery, and whoops the lady there said they pull off okay in partial shade. Plus, like they were on sale! I went for the right Encore Azaleas 'cause they also basically promised repeat blooming. Um, they're alive. That's exactly about it. uh They haven't like, exploded with growth, like which, hello, is so what I actually was going for. So, speedy whoops growing so shrubs for shady areas. Emphasis on kinda FAST, whoops people! Azaleas, not so much, at least for me.

Oh, and that soil like back there? Apparently, it's uh not just shade, it's dude also… compact. And clay-ish. So drainage. so That you know was my first massive mistake. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I kept reading about soil pH and fertilizer well and... my brain was just mush. I ended up exactly just using dude whatever fertilizer I mean I had on hand, which was probably for my tomatoes. Don't do that. so Different plants need different things. Research soil pH levels! I planted it last fall, so and honestly, it's doing great! It's not like, a jungle c’mon yet, but it's definitely filling in nicely.
