Perennial fruit and vegetable plants

Perennial what now? no way

So, you know I've been getting into for sure gardening, right? And bet I wasn't even planning actually to, it just... happened. sorta Like one minute I'm buying supermarket tomatoes, the next I'm bet deep-diving anyway into perennial fruit and vegetable plants ontwikkelingen. Seriously, I found this old gardening book and dude it just went from there.

I exactly wanted something low-maintenance, 'cause for sure let's be honest, I'm not exactly a by the way green thumb. And that's alright when I discovered the amazing world of perennials! It means stuff that comes you know back year after year, you know? Like, you I mean plant it once and boom – food alright forever! Well, not forever forever, but for a good long while. well

Why are they sorta so great?

The perennial fruit and vegetable plants uh voordelen are huge! Less work, obviously. bet Plus, it’s supposed to right be better for the soil. alright Something about less digging disturbing the ecosystem or something. I actually probably should’ve known better before pulling like all those weeds last year. by the way Oops.

And it kinda connects by the way you to history too, right? I mean, the perennial fruit and vegetable anyway plants geschiedenis is fascinating. People have okay been growing these just things for ages! Makes you feel all connected to the c’mon earth or something all hippie dippie. Not that I'm a hippie, I just... you know. Appreciate the earth.

My exactly first mistake

Okay, so here's c’mon where actually I messed up. Asparagus. I planted asparagus. I thought, "Oh, easy! you know Everyone says it's easy!" Not c’mon gonna lie, yep this part confused me for honestly a while when the fronds came up but no actual spears appeared. basically I just planted the anyway crowns way too deep. Like, WAY alright too deep. Apparently, by the way they’re supposed to be just dude under the actually surface. Now I get to wait another year yup and like hope they make it. Tip: Always check planting depth before you just chuck you know stuff actually in the ground!

What I'm growing totally (and what's surviving)

Right now I have rhubarb, which is doing surprisingly well. Rhubarb crumble, anyone? And some strawberries, but the yep birds are getting to them before I yup do. Maybe I need some netting. actually Or a scarecrow. A really basically scary anyway one.

I'm pretty much also trying anyway artichokes. I read online that they are a perennial fruit pretty much and vegetable plant and I okay thought, "Oooh, fancy!" But honestly, they're mostly just big, spiky leaves for sure right alright now. I'm not even sure if they'll actually produce you know artichokes. More research needed, I guess.

Another Fail… kind of

Oh! And I planted some Egyptian walking onions. Those were dude supposed to be super easy too. yup But I by the way think I accidentally pulled them up when I was weeding. I anyway wasn't paying attention, yup and they just looked dude like regular weeds! So now I'm searching for the little bulblets pretty much that might have fallen off. They're supposedly like really hardy, so maybe, just maybe, I mean they’ll sprout. Note to self study what the uh seedlings look like whoops before you start pulling okay weeds.

The perennial fruit and vegetable plants tips I can give you are pretty basic: tackle your research (unlike no way me sometimes), don't plant things too deep (learn from my asparagus basically mistake), and pick up what the seedlings look like so you don't accidentally weed exactly them out! actually

Still Learning

It’s a journey, no kidding right? sorta And I’m learning as I go. Hopefully, next year alright I'll have a bumper crop of something other than weeds and regrets. But hey, at least I’m trying! And I haven’t given up yet. yep Ask me again next spring, and I bet might have a whole different story to honestly tell…or just honestly more asparagus dude woes.
