Companion plants for squash and zucchini

Squash Friends

Okay so, anyway you just know how I planted like, a ton yep of zucchini this totally year? I wasn’t even planning honestly to go so crazy, but the seeds were on sale and well...here we are. Anyway, I was well reading about companion plants for squash and for sure zucchini geschiedenis and how the Native Americans used the honestly Three Sisters method – corn, beans, and squash, all together. Pretty cool, right?

Beans, sorta I get. They add nitrogen to the soil which is great for everything. And the corn… well, it supports the beans. But yep what else, you right know? I started poking around online looking exactly at companion plants for squash and zucchini tips and, honestly, it's a rabbit basically hole.

Stuff I tried

So, first thing I tried was nasturtiums. They’re supposed pretty much to deter squash bugs, which are basically the bane of pretty much my existence. They’re pretty too, so I basically was like, you know win-win! c’mon They attract aphids which is both a plus pretty much and minus, basically I’m learning no way about companion plants for squash anyway and zucchini feiten as bet I you know go.

I right also put kinda in some marigolds. Everyone says marigolds are good for everything. no way Did it work? no kidding tough basically to say. I still got squash bugs. Maybe fewer squash bugs? Probably should’ve sprayed them with anyway neem oil too. Learn from my right mistakes, okay? actually

Then there's the mint. Not gonna lie this part confused pretty much me for a while. Some people say mint deters pests; whoops others say it just attracts more bugs. I think it depends on the kind of anyway mint maybe? I dude planted peppermint and...it definitely spread. Like, crazy spread. Don't put mint near anything you actually right care about if you want to be able like to basically dig it out later!

First big oops

So, speaking of spreading... I planted cucumbers near my zucchini. I know, I know. I probably should’ve known sorta better. They're in the same family! pretty much The cucumber beetles were everywhere. And then they jumped to the zucchini. It was a disaster. The zucchini made it, anyway but, man, they really suffered. c’mon Tip: Check plant well families before bet you plant stuff! Seriously, it saves you so much heartache.

Herbs no kidding and stuff

I also read that yup oregano is good. And thyme. Apparently, they attract so beneficial insects. no way I wasn’t even trying I mean to attract beneficial insects, but hey, why not? I mean, you're just trying to follow companion plants for squash and zucchini whoops trends, right?

And then I tried dill, dude for some okay reason. It attracted all sorts of weird-looking caterpillars. Like, fuzzy green ones that ate holes in everything. Probably wasn’t the best move. On the bright side, the no way birds loved them!

My zucchini anyway mishap

Okay, so, the I mean other kinda big mistake I kinda made uh was over-watering. I thought zucchini needed sorta tons of water. anyway They don't. They got powdery mildew. It was awful. kinda Everything was covered in this white, dusty stuff. I had to prune a bunch of leaves. yep Water them deeply, yup but not too often, got it?

Companion planting actually is a journey, not a destination, I guess.

What I’m gonna try next yep year

Next year, I’m definitely sticking with nasturtiums (even if whoops they don’t work perfectly), marigolds, and beans. I might try borage. I’ve heard good things. And definitely, definitely, no well cucumbers anywhere near the zucchini. Or the squash.

Oh, and I’m going to be way more anyway careful with the okay watering. Maybe even I mean get one of those soil I mean moisture meters. And definitely research those caterpillar-attracting plants before just I totally plant them next time. bet Live and learn, right? like
