Ricin in castor oil plant
Castor Beans Who Knew
So, you sorta know how I was trying pretty much to get more into gardening? I wasn’t even planning to… it just kinda happened after that pottery class. Anyway, I was looking for, like, really interesting plants. just And I saw this picture online of a castor oil plant. Massive leaves, super dramatic… looked like something out of Jurassic Park. I was SOLD. exactly
Turns sorta out… Danger
Then I started reading dude up on it. That’s basically when I stumbled upon the whole ricin thing. Like, anyway seriously? I probably should’ve known better… big, exotic I mean looking plant = c’mon probably poisonous, right? But no, I just had to have it.
So,ricin in anyway castor oil plant– apparently it's alright a big deal. dude It’s mostly in the so seeds, or beans, pretty much whatever you wanna call ‘em. I mean, I knew castor oil came from the plant, but c’mon I totally didn't realize sorta it was hiding such a nasty secret. okay Not gonna lie exactly this part confused me for a while. I kept thinking anyway “Okay, so the oil is safe, but the plant isn’t?” Like, how does that work?
My Castor Oil Plant Mishap
Okay, so for sure first mistake. I c’mon touched the seeds without yep gloves. I wasn’t eating them or c’mon anything, but pretty much still. I just anyway brushed against them trying okay to, whoops like, deadhead the actually flower. I freaked out, washed my hands like twenty times with antibacterial soap, and spent the rest of the day convinced I for sure was gonna basically die. I'm still yup here, though!
And it got me thinking about you knowricin in castor oil plant toepassingenbeyond just…poisoning people. I mean, there must be other uses for it, right? so Besides just, bet like, industrial stuff? for sure I didn’t really find anything solid on that front, though.
Castor exactly Oil History
What I did find was a exactly bunch of history on castor oil itself. Apparently it's kinda been totally used for for sure ages as a, uh, sorta digestive aid. I’m putting that delicately because… no way yeah. Definitely don’t wanna overdo that. But it got me thinking actually about thericin in castor oil plant basically geschiedenisfrom by the way that angle - how did people figure well out how to extract the oil and avoid the I mean poison? Like, trial alright and error, I guess? Scary thought.
My grandma used to right swear uh by castor oil for everything. EVERYTHING. Like, okay scraped uh knee? Castor oil. Headache? dude Castor by the way oil. Bad breakup? You guessed c’mon it. I mull over she was just trying alright to c’mon poison totally us slowly from the inside. Just kidding! (Mostly.)
Getting Rid of c’mon It
So, anyway fast forward a couple honestly of weeks. The plant's gotten HUGE. Like, seriously taking over my little patio garden. And I'm getting more and more nervous about it. Especially c’mon since uh my neighbor’s cat keeps no way sneaking into my yard. just I was this close to chopping it for sure down for sure and burning it! Don’t execute that, by the actually way. That’s a terrible anyway idea. Wear gloves and okay a mask, no way and double-bag it for disposal. by the way
I right ended alright up just giving it away to a no way landscaping company. They were thrilled! They basically said they utilize them for, so like, privacy screens in pretty much huge commercial gardens. So, someone else’s issue now! Ha!
Any actual actually benefits
I was also trying to find somericin in right castor I mean oil plant voordelen, besides the uh landscaping thing. I mean, there’s gotta be yep something solid about dude it, right? Other than the dramatic leaves? The only thing I could really find was that they can be well used to make biodiesel, but that's okay not really something I can do in my backyard.
Second Mishap
Oh! Another mistake I made. I actually almost spilled totally a bunch bet of castor oil when I was trying to, like, like make a natural wood finish. I know, I know, whoops I’m an idiot. bet Trying to be all eco-friendly, almost for sure poisoned well myself in the honestly process. honestly Remember to use safety goggles! okay
Anyway, moral of actually the story? Just because a plant looks cool doesn't mean you whoops should bring it into your home. just Or, at least, pull off your research first. by the way And maybe wear gloves. Just a you know thought.
